HI! I am Jacqueline Nguyen – designer, photographer and food-lover working in the comfort of my home in Dallas, Texas.

After having been an public audit and tax accountant for a little over 4 years, I’ve realized my passion lies in design. In my 4+ years of freelancing, I have completed small business responsive web design and development projects but am now aiming to work with teams to deliver user-centered design (UX/UI) on a corporate or agency scale.

WORK

ParaCodex aims to enhance the reading experience through digital tools and features that promote a more social, networked and interactive environment not afforded by print culture. To accomplish our goal of transforming the reading experience, our group identified – through case studies, literature reviews and interviews – a number of problem areas that exist in the current reading experience:

1. Print culture is closed off, finite. Not open.
2. Print culture is static and fixed. Not iterative.
3. Print culture is not social – readers cannot examine the same text simultaneously.
4. Print culture is not multi-modal – text-centric. Not visual or dynamic.

To solve these problems, our project proposed these solutions:
1. Use the open nature of the Internet as a platform for publishing, reading and writing.
2. Create texts that are fluid objects with iterative publishing models, adopt a versioning systems.
3. Make the reading experience social, including a multi-modal annotation system that can be shared.
4. Gives as much importance to visual, audio, and multimedia-based forms of communication as text.

Medicine related errors cause harm to over 1.5 million people every year and will continue to increase unless improvements are made to the current utilization methods.

RXAutomated is a comprehensive drug information database consisting of a handheld barcode scanning device and an optional wristband, all of which work in synergy with a proprietary software installed on a personal smart phone to produce automated personal medications records (aPMR).

The mobile app is designed to alleviate the problems associated with complex medication regiments by tracking patient medication dosage information and promoting drug education. This will aid the patient and healthcare providers by providing detailed medication logs to prevent adverse drug reactions during emergency situations. RXAutomated will also provide an additional line of defense to medication errors by showing the patient what the medication looks like and demonstrating its’ proper use.

BAE Boutique is an women’s online clothing boutique based in Atlanta, Georgia. The boutique carries a wide range of edgy #ootn (outfit of the night) styles.

Because the styles are so unique, I kept the design simple with some pink for a feminine touch. Like many, there are user-centered options such as an “add to wishlist,” quick view, color swatches, product zooms, size guides, and account registration for quick orders and order tracking.

WordPress was chosen as the content management system due to its’ powerful integration with WooCommerce; this not only allowed an effortless checkout system with the third-party credit card vendor, but also countless options for shipping prices by weight, discount codes, and much more.

Ikigai Udon is a Japanese fast-food restaurant based in Frisco, Texas. The restaurant prepares hand-made udon noodles with fresh ingredients – staying true to the cultures’ values.

The branding for Ikigai Udon emphasizes on quality and health, therefore copy was written to inform customers on the handmade noodle process to show the value they are receiving for dining with Ikigai. A one page, parallax look was decided to give users the ability to scroll quickly through to the information they needed – this parallels with their idea of delivering food, or in this case, information, quickly. With little content, stock images were pulled to give the site more visual appeal. Other touches include Japanese translation and minimal animation.

WordPress has a simplified method for creating one page layouts and menus; it will allow me to easily add features in the future: ordering delivery, checkout and event sliders.
